When we go to Destin, I like to have a non-beach activity - especially since I'm not really a beach person! This year's trip took us to the Gulf Breeze Zoo 30 minutes away. Small to get around but with lots of fun features - lots of up close (big 34 year old) kid-animal interactions!
Petting and feeding the goats. Cooper was definitely more daring to touch the animals that the little missy who wears a dress to the zoo. And it's a good thing we aren't really germ-a-phobes around here because there was lots of animal slobber being thrown around.
This little goat broke free from his pen - so cute! And I guess he thought the stroller was his momma... Note to self - quit taking strollers to the zoo. Let them walk because they won't stay in the stroller anyway, and you'll push around an empty stroller the whole time. Take a backpack!
The highlight of the zoo - at least for Greg - was the bird enclosure. We had seed sticks that they were supposed to land on. There were hundreds of little parakeets of all colors flying and walking around. The kids tried but were a little intimidated. But the grown up giggling and cackling at the birds attacking his feet - licking off sweaty salt? - was well worth the price of admission.
And then we rode the train to the back of the zoo to see some other animals. And, I do believe Meghan's playing with the baby - not me :) ... Katelynn slept most of the whole three hours wrapped up against me. Super sweaty baby!
Chimpanzees running along with the train across the water
Speaking of super sweaty...
Feeding ostriches...
Petting llamas - as I said, Daddy seems to have had lots of fun :)
Feeding the giraffes - good thing daddies are tall enough to (safely) do this!
Sharing an after-zoo snack while cooling off! We had lots of fun!
